We had a client who was involved in an accident where the other driver fled the scene, so our client was left with damage to their vehicle and pain from their injuries with no way to contact the other driver, much less exchange insurance. Luckily, our client had worked with us before and knew to call the police so they could give a statement about what happened. Because our client spoke with the police and the officer determined the other driver was at fault in the police report, we were able to successfully file a personal injury claim.
Damages We Fought For and Won
Our client suffered back and leg pain and injuries as a result of the collision, as well as missed days from work. We fought for:
- Medical treatment
- Future medical treatment
- Lost wages
The other driver fled the scene, so we were able to file this claim against our client’s own uninsured motorist and personal injury protection policies. If there hadn’t been a police report showing the other driver was at fault, our client may not have been able to successfully receive payment for their injury claim.

Always File a Police Report
In this case, without the police report there would be very little evidence that our client was not at fault for this wreck, and they would have been responsible for paying for their medical treatment and damage to their car. In any car accident, police should be called to the scene, however if that is not a possibility, it’s not too late to go to the police station to speak with an officer the following day.Â
If you do not have a police officer come to the accident scene, it’s important to report your accident quickly for the strongest chance at getting the maximum payment for your injury claim, however you do have ten days to report it. In most cases in Texas, you must go to the police station in person to report an accident.
