Handling Your Own Injury Claim is Not a Game

When you play a video game for the first time, you don’t expect a high score. Likewise, when you’re hurt in an accident and you try to handle your own injury claim, you should not expect the high score. When you try to handle your own injury claim, it’s basically like playing a video game likely for the first time, but you’re in a tournament against pro gamers. If you’ll bear with this analogy, I think you’ll find some common mistakes that many people make when they try to play the game themselves.

There is No Reset Button

Did you fall into that pitfall of giving a recorded statement to the insurance company?

Bottom line is: there’s no reason to give a recorded statement.

If you are rear-ended or there’s a police report that clearly states the other driver’s at fault, you shouldn’t give a statement. The insurance company just wants to get you on record stating anything they can get you to state to use against you in your claim later.

Do you also wish you could press the reset button when, after only an hour or two and after the accident, you told the insurance company that you weren’t hurt, or you’re just a little sore, but now that your adrenaline has quit pumping, you realize just how hurt you are? What else did you tell the insurance company on record that they’re going to try to use against your claim later?

Better yet, why are you trying to defeat the designer of the game?

Don’t Fall for the Insurance Company’s Trick Questions

Did you already tell the insurance company about preexisting injuries or other accidents you’ve had in the past? This information has nothing to do with whether or not the other driver caused this accident and these injuries that you have today. The object of the game is to destroy you, so the insurance company is not going to take the time to explain the rules to you.

You can’t just hit the menu options to find out what other weapons are available to you. The insurance company is NOT going to tell you about other claims that you can make that you haven’t already made, but we will. The object of the game is to conquer you, not tell you how you can get extra bullets.

Once you sign anything, it’s game over. Why not take advantage of the attorney forcefield before you do that? At Carrollton Injury Law, we’ve been playing this game for more than two decades, and we never want the insurance company to win.

Carrollton Injury Lawyer Joel Hudson

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I’m Joel Hudson, the founder of Carrollton Injury Law, located at 4221 Medical Pkwy, Suite 300, Carrollton, TX 75010.

With over 25 years of experience practicing personal injury law, I’ve built my firm on a simple belief: there’s a better way to handle injury claims. It starts with treating you like a person—not a number—and continues with consistent communication throughout your entire case. You can reach me directly at (972) 360-9898 to discuss your situation—I’m here to listen.

I’ve seen how a single injury can ripple through every part of your life, affecting not just you but your family too. That’s why my approach is different. At Carrollton Injury Law, we don’t just chase settlements; we focus on you. I’ve found that giving clients the extra attention many Dallas law firms overlook leads to happier clients, smoother dealings with adjusters who appreciate the updates, and, ultimately, higher injury settlements in less time. My clients often call me the “personal” attorney because we care about maximizing your recovery while also helping you navigate the disruptions a car accident or injury brings—whether it’s medical bills, lost work, or simply getting back to normal.

I earned my Juris Doctor from Texas A&M University School of Law in 1998, after completing my Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Business at Texas Christian University in 1992. Since being admitted to practice in Texas in 1998, I’ve dedicated my career to fighting for injury victims across the state.

At Carrollton Injury Law, we live by our motto: “We put Personal back into Personal Injury Law.” It’s not just a tagline—it’s how we work, every day, for every client.

If you’re ready to talk about your injury claim or just need some guidance, don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m here to help you take the first step toward justice and recovery.
