Exchanging Information
When you are in an accident, get the following information from the other driver:
Contact information, including name, address, and phone number
Their insurance information, including the company, policy number, and the insurance company’s phone number
Their driver’s license number
Their license plate number
Other information to gather:
The police report number from the police officer
The badge number of the police officer
Witness contact information, including name and phone number
The date, time, and location of the accident
The weather and road condition at the time of the accident
The easiest way to gather a lot of this information is by taking pictures and video with your phone. Something as simple as a video of the whole accident scene might have helpful information for a personal injury lawyer to get more for your claim – things like the weather, speed limit signs, road conditions, the location of the damage on the vehicles involved, and more. It’s always best to get more information than you think you need, so get pictures of everything!
