If you have been in a car accident, chances are you have dealt with another driver’s insurance company. But what if the other driver didn’t have insurance? That’s where Uninsured Motorist Coverage comes in.
Uninsured Motorist Coverage (UM)
Uninsured Motorist Coverage, or UM, protects you if you are hit by a driver who does not have car insurance, or if the at-fault driver fled the scene. This insurance will pay for medical bills and lost wages for you and your passengers up to the policy limit. Check your policy to be sure you have UM to protect yourself and your family.
Underinsured Motorist Coverage (UIM)
Underinsured Motorist Coverage, or UIM, protects you when the at-fault driver’s insurance policy does not offer enough coverage to take care of all of the damages from the accident. In this case, their insurance would pay first, then your UIM policy would kick in. This is typically offered with UM, so again, check your insurance policy.
